The Bondi Lifesaver was a regular industry hangout during the seventies. It was affectionately know as the Bondi Wife Swapper.
The stage was small and the ceiling way to low to rig lights, the power always caused noise in the PA, which you had to stack one side on the bar, and the dressing room was tiny. None of this mattered, as it was what you were used to in those days, besides, all of the top Australian bands performed there and it had a great vibe.
I was fortunate to work alongside my long time friend Peter Ratcliff who did the sound and I did the lights. From what I can remember it was a wild night that lasted until almost dawn on 31 August 1980.
Watch the video and enjoy the last night of the Swap, especially the craziness in the back stage area. Unfortunately some of the great entertainers such as Ted Mulry and Marc Hunter are no longer with us. Check out the book by Craig Griffiths and watch the Video.
