Introduction

A History of Live Production in Australia is a collection of hundreds of photos and some rare videos, showcasing the rise of production technology and techniques that ignited the Australian music industry from the early 1970s and throughout the decades that followed.

It served as the backbone of an emerging industry, enabling numerous Australian musical acts to gain international exposure, with thousands of performers, crew members, and support workers earning offshore incomes and contributing to Australia’s prosperity.

This historical site is a valuable addition to Australia’s cultural archives and must be preserved indefinitely to document the extraordinary achievements of the dedicated, talented, underpaid, and overworked production crews who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes, often going unrecognised. While we can’t acknowledge everyone who has contributed over the years, we reflect on their efforts as faithfully recorded right here.

Many thanks to Grahame Harrison and Julius Grafton for their contribution to this project.
